Elbląg Proposed Site for New US‑Polish Dual‑Use Military Base
Polish authorities are presenting a plan to establish a permanent United States military presence in the city of Elbląg. The proposal, dubbed “Polish Ramstein,” envisions a dual‑use complex that would serve both defense functions and civilian purposes, aiming to transform the region into a modern military‑civilian metropolis.
The project is estimated at 200 billion złoty and includes infrastructure such as an underground pre‑metro line and a Gdańsk–Żywiec railway link, intended to generate economic growth in peacetime while providing rapid strategic mobility in crisis situations. The concept stresses fiscal efficiency, claiming that each zloty invested would yield 1.6 złoty in private investment and that the facilities would operate continuously rather than remaining idle during peace.
If approved, the base would become a permanent element of Poland’s defence architecture and a catalyst for regional development, integrating military standards with commercial and social services.
