Museum of Jewish History to present rare 1945 historical letters
The Museum of Jewish History will host a public presentation of three historical letters written by Zsolt Ágnes in 1945. The documents, donated by the Oradea Heritage Foundation, provide a memorial account of the period following the Holocaust.
In June 1944, Zsolt Ágnes and her husband, Zsolt Béla, escaped from a typhus hospital in the Oradea ghetto and reached Budapest. They were later part of the ‘Kasztner operation,’ which involved transporting Jewish individuals to Bergen-Belsen and eventually to Switzerland in December 1944. The letters, dated between April and June 1945, were written from Switzerland to a friend in London and represent rare personal correspondence from that era.
