Museum of Kurpie Culture hosts Mieczysław Szymański exhibition finale

The Museum of Kurpie Culture in Ostrołęka will host the closing event for the exhibition dedicated to Mieczysław Szymański (1903-1990) on August 30 at 11:00.

The event features a lecture by art historian Hubert Bilewicz, who will discuss the history of the unique Polish tapestry ‘Jan III Sobieski’. Designed by Szymański in 1937, this piece was the largest tapestry in the history of Polish artistic textiles and received the Grand Prix at the 1937 World Exhibition in Paris. After being displayed in New York in 1939, the tapestry remained in the United States due to the outbreak of war and was eventually housed at Le Moyne College in Syracuse before returning to Poland to join the collections of the Museum of Polish History.

Following the lecture, art historian Katarzyna Stamm will lead a final guided tour of the exhibition. Admission is free.
