Museum of the Portuguese Language opens 20th anniversary exhibition

The Museum of the Portuguese Language in São Paulo is launching the temporary exhibition ‘Luz da Língua’ to celebrate its 20th anniversary. Located at the Estação da Luz, the exhibit uses a timeline of photographs, reports, and original documents to chronicle the institution's history from 2006 to 2026. This includes its founding, the 2015 fire, the reconstruction process, and its 2021 reopening.

A video installation by artist Leandro Lima features a mosaic of archival footage with figures such as Caetano Veloso, Maria Bethânia, Valter Hugo Mãe, Zahy Tentehar, and Davi Kopenawa reflecting on or singing verses in Portuguese.

In partnership with Companhia das Letras, the museum is also hosting ‘70 Anos de Grande Sertão: Veredas – Conversas e Leituras’. This event features writers and researchers discussing the work of João Guimarães Rosa and marks the release of a commemorative edition of the novel. The program includes scheduled discussions with authors such as Milton Hatoum, Jeferson Tenório, and Socorro Acioli.
