Museum of Zoology of USP launches urban fauna exhibition in São Paulo

The Museum of Zoology (MZ) of the University of São Paulo has launched an exhibition titled ‘Existe Bicho em SP?’ (Is there wildlife in SP?) at Shopping Center 3 on Avenida Paulista. Running until October 31, the showcase aims to encourage the public to observe and care for the diverse urban fauna living alongside the city's 11 million residents.

The exhibition features preserved animals from the museum's scientific collection, previously unseen photographs of São Paulo's fauna, and interactive experiences. It highlights how various species, including birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and insects, have adapted to urban environments such as parks, squares, and residential yards.

Developed as part of a curatorship course within the Graduate Program in Systematics, Animal Taxonomy, and Biodiversity (STBio), the project allowed students to participate in every stage of the exhibition's creation, from conception to assembly, under faculty guidance. The program also includes lectures and workshops held at the museum, the shopping center, Parque da Independência, and Parque Trianon.
