Museum Rietberg to host Amazonian art and archaeology exhibition

The Museum Rietberg in Zurich will host an exhibition titled ‘Das Vermächtnis Amazoniens – Kunst und Archäologie’ (The Legacy of the Amazon – Art and Archaeology) from October 30, 2026, to March 14, 2027.

The exhibition presents the Amazon region as one of South America’s most diverse cultural spaces, highlighting human presence in the area for at least 13,000 years. It features monumental structures, exchange networks, decorated ceramics, and rock paintings that demonstrate a deep and often underestimated history.

The program aims to explore how indigenous communities view the connection between nature and culture, using archaeological findings to encourage new perspectives on human coexistence and the preservation of the Amazonian legacy.
