Museum Stutthof launches online exhibit on children born in the camp

The Museum Stutthof in Sztutowo has opened a digital exhibition titled “In Stutthof children were born…”, documenting the lives of infants and their mothers in the Stutthof concentration camp. Curator Agnieszka Kłys says the project aims to reveal a little‑known aspect of the camp’s history, based on witness testimonies and the few surviving documents. The museum has identified 13 children by name and notes that at one point about 50 mothers with newborns were present in the camp.

The exhibition combines archival records, photographs, audio recordings and personal testimonies, using material from the Museum Stutthof collection and the Arolsen Archives. It is available online for public access. Stutthof was the first and longest‑operating Nazi concentration camp on present‑day Polish territory, operating for 2,077 days after opening on 2 September 1939 near Sztutowo.
