Museum Wehrgeschichte to close Linz-Ebelsberg location
The Museum of Military History of Upper Austria (Museum Wehrgeschichte Oberösterreich) is scheduled to close its current location at the former Hillerkaserne in Linz-Ebelsberg in mid-September. The closure is linked to residential development plans for the barracks site.
Previously, there were plans to expand the museum and integrate it into the new Ebelsberg center district with support from the WSF Private Foundation. However, those expansion plans have been halted. The museum's collections cover significant historical periods, including the Battle of Ebelsberg in 1809 during the Napoleonic Wars, as well as the history of the Austrian Federal Army and various UN peacekeeping missions.
To mark the closure, a final open house will be held on Saturday, September 12, offering free admission to the collections and special exhibitions, such as ‘70 Years of the Bundesheer’. Discussions are currently ongoing with the state of Upper Austria regarding a potential new location for the museum.
