Museums in Shiga and Tochigi host archaeological exhibitions

The City History and Folklore Museum in Yasu, Shiga Prefecture, is hosting an exhibition titled ‘Life with Water Nurtured by Lakes and Rivers.’ The event features approximately 260 artifacts, including a rare 5th-century ship-shaped haniwa (clay figurine) excavated from the Shinkai No. 4 Kofun in Ritto City. The exhibition also highlights connections between local finds and regions such as Kumamoto Prefecture and the Seto Inland Sea.

In Nasushiobara, Tochigi Prefecture, the Nasunogahara Museum is holding a special exhibition titled ‘JOMON Tsukino Kizawa—Rethinking the Results of the Tsukino Kizawa Site Investigation.’ The display includes about 170 items, such as pottery and stone tools from the Jomon period, providing insight into ancient lifestyles at the Tsukino Kizawa settlement site. The exhibition is scheduled to run until January 11.
