Museums in Uruguay and Peru launch new heritage engagement initiatives

Cultural institutions in Uruguay and Peru are introducing new methods to enhance visitor engagement and heritage preservation.

In Uruguay, the Museo de Arte Precolombino e Indígena (MAPI) is launching the MAPI Tour App on August 31. This digital tool connects museum visitors directly with professional guides, including members of the Montevideo Tourism Guides Association and the Uruguay Interpreters and Guides Association. The initiative aims to provide personalized tours while creating professional visibility for tourism workers.

In Peru, the Museo de la Catedral de Lima has introduced an immersive theatrical tour to mark the 42nd anniversary of its museum's reopening. The experience features historical figures such as Saint Toribio de Mogrovejo and the Count of Superunda, guiding visitors through the cathedral's history. The tour includes a dramatic reenactment of the 1746 earthquake to illustrate the city's historical reconstruction.
