Museveni proposes Bugisu anthem for East African Federation

During a visit to Mbale City for World Tourism Day celebrations, President Yoweri Museveni proposed that the Bugisu Anthem be considered as a potential anthem for the future East African Federation. Museveni suggested the anthem's melody and lyrics could serve as a cultural expression for the proposed political federation, which remains a long-term objective of the East African Community (EAC). This proposal is distinct from the existing EAC anthem, which was adopted in 2010 and is performed in Kiswahili.

In a separate development during the same visit, the Bazzukulu Ba Museveni youth movement in the Bugisu sub-region officially endorsed President Museveni for the 2031 presidential election. Led by coordinator Chris Buyela, the group pledged to mobilize grassroots support, citing the need for continuity in Uganda’s long-term development programs and stability under Museveni’s leadership. The endorsement occurred during the official opening of the renovated Mount Elgon Hotel.
