Music competitions in Hungary highlight emerging vocal and guitar talent

Several music competitions are taking place in Hungary, highlighting emerging talent in both classical and contemporary genres.

The Marton Éva International Singing Competition is holding its seventh edition in Budapest. This year's event features dramatic soprano Plácido Domingo as honorary patron. The competition has seen a significant increase in participation, with 285 valid entries from a wide range of applicants. Notably, 29 contestants are participating from South Korea, reflecting the international reach of the event. The average age of competitors has trended younger, falling between 24 and 30 years old.

Additionally, the ÚJ GITÁROS talent search is returning for its fifth iteration to discover promising guitarists. Applicants can submit five-minute video performances of original compositions or covers until September 13. The competition will culminate in a final on September 29 at the A38 Ship, where the top ten guitarists will compete. The event features past winners and professional musicians, including 2022 winner Tamás Jurisits, who will perform with his group before the results are announced.
