Music Copyright Association launches store music usage tracking service
The Together Music Copyright Association (TMCA) has officially launched the ‘R-tmis Store Music Log Linkage Service,’ allowing music creators to directly monitor how their works are played in commercial venues. The service provides data from approximately 90,000 stores across South Korea, including information on which music service providers were used and which specific brands played the music.
Developed in collaboration with C-Flex and supported by the Korea Copyright Commission’s UCI dissemination project, the system utilizes the Universal Content Identifier (UCI) to standardize data. This expansion follows previous efforts to track music usage on major streaming platforms like Melon and Genie Music, as well as across 176 broadcasting channels.
By integrating store music logs with online transmission and broadcast data, the TMCA has established a comprehensive system for creators to view real-time usage statistics, including a ‘Store Music TOP 100’ chart. This initiative aims to increase transparency in the copyright ecosystem and protect the rights of creators by providing visibility into a sector that was previously difficult to monitor.
