Music festivals evolve through digital access and ESG integration

Music festivals are evolving from simple entertainment venues into strategic platforms for ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) practices. Driven by pressure from younger generations, sustainability has become a core business and sponsorship criterion. While waste management is often discussed, experts note that less than 1% of a festival's environmental impact comes from solid waste; the primary challenge is the carbon emissions generated by audience travel, necessitating strategic planning for public transportation.

Historically, festivals like the inaugural Rock in Rio in 1985 helped establish major musical circuits, drawing approximately 1.38 million people and featuring international acts like Queen. Today, the focus has shifted toward social and environmental integration. For example, the Afropunk festival was built with a strong social pillar before incorporating environmental solutions, reflecting a growing consumer demand for concrete corporate actions and community connection.
