Shirley Manson celebrates 60th birthday

Shirley Manson, the Scottish vocalist and leader of the alternative rock band Garbage, is celebrating her 60th birthday. Manson rose to international prominence in the 1990s following the release of the band's self-titled debut album in 1995.

Her career trajectory was significantly influenced by an MTV music video featuring her previous group, Angelfish, which led producer Steve Marker to invite her to join Garbage. Alongside band members Butch Vig, Duke Erikson, and Steve Marker, she helped define the sound of 90s alternative rock, blending elements of grunge, electronic, and trip hop. The band has released eight albums to date, including notable works such as ‘Version 2.0’ and ‘Let All That We Imagine Be The Light’.

Beyond her musical achievements, which include multiple Grammy nominations and hits like ‘Stupid Girl’ and ‘Only Happy When It Rains’, Manson is recognized for her activism regarding feminism, animal rights, mental health, and LGBTQ+ rights.
