Music industry faces economic challenges in live performances

The music industry is facing significant economic challenges, particularly regarding the sustainability of live performances. Rising production costs and increasing ticket prices are making it difficult for artists to maintain profitable tours and for fans to afford them. This crisis affects the entire sector, from newcomers to established international stars.

During the ‘Giovanni Zarrella Show’, the initiative ‘Music Made in Germany’ addressed these industry-wide struggles. International artist Adam Lambert noted that these economic difficulties are a global phenomenon, stating, ‘I believe it is like that everywhere. It is just difficult everywhere in the world.’

As a result of these pressures—including the rise of streaming, the impact of lockdowns, and the emergence of artificial intelligence—some musicians are choosing to pursue new career paths. Examples include Winson, who transitioned from music to radio hosting; Juliane Werding, who became a naturopath and actress; and Peter Garrett of Midnight Oil, who moved into politics and served as Australia’s Environment Minister.
