Music industry sees surge in archival reissues and box sets

The summer of 2026 has seen a significant release of archival music recordings, box sets, and reissues spanning various genres including blues, punk, and rock 'n' roll.

Notable releases include a collection of pre-fame singles and demos from David Bowie, as well as pre-fame recordings from the Grateful Dead captured during an early Independence Day live performance. New Order and Joy Division are also featured through repackaged hits, remixes, and a career-spanning live box set; both groups are slated for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this November.

Other highlighted reissues include remasters of classic albums by The Stooges and Cat Stevens, and three 1980s Whitesnake albums restored to their original U.S. mixes. The period also features collections exploring the influence of Eastern music on Western rock and the intersection of punk and dub.
