Music industry trends: Swedish market growth and Spotify subscriber milestones

The Swedish music market grew by 3 percent in 2025, reaching a total turnover of over 2.3 billion SEK. Streaming remains the dominant force, accounting for 94 percent of the total market value. While audio streaming is the largest segment, video streaming saw a notable increase of 10 percent during the year.

Physical music sales also experienced slight growth, rising by 1 percent. Within this category, CD sales increased by 4 percent, whereas vinyl sales remained largely unchanged. Ludvig Werner, CEO of Ifpi Sverige, noted that the market remains stable despite these shifts.

Separately, Spotify reported a record-breaking second quarter for 2026, surpassing 300 million premium subscribers. The platform now reaches 777 million monthly active users, representing a 12 percent increase from the previous year. The company reported revenues of 4.8 billion euros and an operating profit of 655 million euros.
