Music rated top by business leaders for workplace skills

A report by the Royal College of Music reveals that business leaders highly value music for developing essential workplace competencies. In a survey of 302 UK business leaders, music was ranked as the top subject for equipping graduates with skills in five out of seven key areas, including creativity and innovation, teamwork, adaptability, communication, and time management.

Additionally, 90% of business leaders reported that music aids concentration, and 70% believe music-based wellbeing initiatives would benefit staff. Despite this, the research notes that music education in the UK is under pressure, with fewer children having the opportunity to study it than at any point in a generation.

The study also highlights music's economic and social importance. Nearly half of British adults (49%) now identify music as the UK’s greatest export, surpassing scientific research and technology innovation. Furthermore, London was identified by 45% of respondents as the world’s leading center of excellence for music and theatre.
