Music streaming platforms implement AI labeling and monetization policies
Major music streaming platforms are implementing new policies to address the rise of AI-generated music. Tidal has announced a strict policy where tracks that are “wholly or substantially” generated by AI will be clearly labeled and prohibited from monetization.
Other industry leaders are also adopting transparency measures. Spotify plans to label AI-generated “personas” and exclude them from algorithmic playlists starting in mid-September, while Apple has pledged to clearly label AI-made music on its platform. These developments follow calls from the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) for a standardized labeling system.
In the context of music education and production, AI tools are being used for technical tasks such as mastering plug-ins that suggest audio settings. While some professionals view AI as a tool for creativity or a time-saver, there remains an ongoing debate regarding the distinction between human-composed music and content created entirely through AI prompts.
