Music teacher sentenced to 16 years for abusing student in Odivelas
A 40-year-old music teacher and founder of the Academia de Música Tiago Pires has been sentenced to 16 years in prison by the Loures Court for the sexual abuse of a minor and child pornography.
The defendant systematically abused a student starting when she was 12 years old, continuing the abuse until she was 19. The court also ordered the man to pay 56,000 euros in compensation to the victim. Additionally, he is prohibited from exercising any profession or activity involving regular contact with minors for 15 years, and is barred from adopting or having custody of children.
During the proceedings, the defendant claimed he was in love with the victim and admitted to being the adult in the relationship, though he denied the frequency of the sexual encounters alleged by the prosecution. The case follows his arrest in 2025 and subsequent preventive detention ordered by the Lisbon Court of Appeal.
