Music technology evolves through AI integration and interactive startups
The music industry is experiencing a shift driven by artificial intelligence and new interactive technologies. The podcast series ‘Light Box,’ hosted by audio producer Mark Henry Phillips, explores the dual nature of AI in music. While some creators view the technology as a creative miracle, others, such as electronic artist The Range, describe the financial impact as a “total disaster.” The series features interviews with industry figures, including the CEO of Suno, and examines the implications for artists whose work is utilized by AI platforms.
In contrast to the rise of generative AI prompting, the startup A Vinyl Bar in Shibuya is focusing on interactive music tools. Founded by former Spotify innovation head Máuhan M Zonoozy, the company recently secured $5.5 million in pre-seed funding. The startup aims to move beyond passive consumption by releasing apps and extensions—such as Speed Surfer and Stacks—that allow users to manipulate sounds, vocals, and stems through direct interaction rather than AI-generated prompts.
