Musica Sacra Maastricht festival explores theme of ecstasy

The 44th edition of the Musica Sacra Maastricht festival will take place from September 18 to 20 in the historic center of Maastricht. Centered on the theme of ‘Extase’ (Ecstasy), the festival integrates music, theater, dance, film, and visual arts to explore moments of transcendence.

Performances will be held in various locations, including monumental churches, the Bonnefanten Museum, and Theater aan het Vrijthof. A notable highlight includes the project ‘Passing Remark’ by Icelandic composer Hildur Guðnadóttir, known for her work on ‘Chernobyl’ and ‘Joker’. Her composition will be performed from the balcony of the Bonnefanten tower, blending brass instruments with the city's architecture and acoustics.
