Musical inspired by ‘The Neverending Story’ to premiere in Belém
A musical adaptation inspired by the 1984 film ‘The Neverending Story’ is set to premiere in Belém, Brazil. The production, titled ‘História Sem Fim’, will be performed on October 17 and 18 at the Teatro Margarida Schivasappa in Centur.
Based on the novel by Michael Ende, the musical follows the story of Bastian Balthazar, a boy who finds refuge in a mysterious book that transports him to the world of Fantasia. The production combines elements of fantasy adventure with musical hits from the 1980s and 1990s.
Beyond the fantasy elements, the play explores themes of grief, memory, and loss. Director Kleber Dümerval incorporated these themes as a reflection of his personal experience of being unable to say goodbye to his mother due to pandemic-related sanitary restrictions, using art as a way to transform that interrupted farewell into a tribute.
