Musical performances explore the works of Mahler and Schubert
Recent musical showcases have highlighted the diverse interpretations of classical compositions by Gustav Mahler and Franz Schubert.
Baritone Andrè Schuen and pianist Daniel Heide have released a recording of Mahler's songs, including 'Kindertotenlieder' and 'Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen'. Their approach focuses on a stripped-back, diatonic style that avoids late-Romantic sentimentality, seeking existential clarity through soft, flowing accompaniment.
In Vienna, the ensemble Musicbanda Franui, led by Andreas Schett, hosted an event titled 'Die große Schubertsache' at the Wiener Konzerthaus. The performance explored the breadth of Franz Schubert's repertoire, featuring various artists such as bass-baritone Florian Boesch, mezzo-soprano Anja Mittermüller, and tenor Julian Prégardien, alongside pianist Julius Drake.
