Musical premieres scheduled for October 23 in Italy

Two significant musical events are set to take place in Italy on Friday, October 23. In Modena, the Duomo will host the first modern performance of the Oratorio of San Geminiano. Composed in 1705 by Catterina Benedetta Grazianini, the work was originally performed in Vienna before the ruling dukes of Modena and Brunswick. The performance will feature the Bologna Baroque Orchestra directed by Paolo Faldi, accompanied by several soloists.

In Florence, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino will debut an opera based on the cult novel ‘Romanzo criminale’. The production, which tells the story of the Banda della Magliana, features a score by Oscar-winning composer Nicola Piovani and a libretto by the novel’s author, Giancarlo De Cataldo. Directed by Massimo Popolizio, the premiere will be broadcast on Rai 3.
