Musician D4vd arrested for murder of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez

Singer and rapper D4vd, born David Anthony Burke, has been arrested and charged with the murder of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez. Prosecutors allege that Hernandez had been in an on-off relationship with Burke since she was 11 years old. Her dismembered body was discovered in the trunk of Burke's Tesla at a Los Angeles tow lot after she had been missing for five months.

Following the arrest, attention has turned to Burke's 2023 music video for the song ‘Rehab’. The video features an anime-style depiction of a man resembling Burke dismembering a woman. Animators who worked on the project expressed shock at the parallels between the fictional imagery and the criminal allegations. One animator noted that the concept was originally presented as a depiction of ‘inner conflict,’ but expressed profound sadness and regret regarding the video's content in light of the crime.

Burke, who rose to fame via TikTok and was signed to Darkroom Records, an imprint of Universal Music Group's Interscope Records, has pleaded not guilty to murder and sexual abuse charges. He remains in custody without the possibility of bail.
