According to police and family reports, Singh confronted a group of individuals—identified as workers from local eateries and delivery agents—who were reportedly drinking and creating a disturbance outside his residence. The confrontation escalated into a violent physical assault. Singh was rushed to Holy Family Hospital in Okhla, where he later succumbed to injuries caused by haemorrhagic shock and blunt force trauma.

Delhi Police have arrested seven adults and apprehended one juvenile in connection with the attack. The suspects include individuals identified as Bharat Kumar, Pramod, Ramzan Khan, Deepanshu, Mohan Vishwakarma, Vijay, and Mannu. While some community members raised concerns regarding a potential racial motive, police stated that no such motive has been established.

The death has sparked significant outrage and grief within the Northeast community in Delhi and in Manipur. Political leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, have called for a swift and thorough investigation to ensure justice. Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has also requested a high-level probe into the incident.
