Musician János Karácsony celebrates 75th birthday

Hungarian musician János Karácsony, widely known by the nicknames James and Indián, is celebrating his 75th birthday. A virtuoso guitarist, singer, and songwriter, Karácsony has played a pivotal role in the history of Hungarian rock music.

His career includes significant tenures with the bands Ferm, Generál, and the legendary Locomotiv GT (LGT). He joined LGT in 1974, taking the place of Tamás Barta, and contributed to iconic albums and songs such as ‘Mindig magasabb’. His musical journey began with classical guitar studies in Óbuda and was heavily influenced by the discovery of artists like Cream and Jimi Hendrix in the late 1960s.

Beyond his technical skill, Karácsony is noted for his clean vocals and unique songwriting style. His nicknames originated from different sources: ‘James’ was a childhood moniker inspired by an American western film, while ‘Indián’ was a name coined by lyricist Anna Adamis for an LGT song.
