Musician Sven Regener criticizes political songs
Musician and author Sven Regener, lead singer of the band Element of Crime, has expressed his disapproval of songs containing political messages. Speaking in Mainz, Regener stated that he finds the connection between politics and music unhelpful, arguing that music is an art form driven by emotion.
Regener suggested that mixing politics with emotion is a precursor to populism. He distinguished the two fields by noting that politics relies on enlightenment, discussion, and factual argumentation—elements he believes have no place in art.
According to Regener, the role of art is to help people reconcile with their lives and provide a sense of distance from their own existence. He emphasized that while art may not make people smarter or better, its purpose is to make them happier by providing a reprieve from the self.
