Musician Trần Tiến reflects on life and career at age 79

Renowned Vietnamese musician Trần Tiến recently shared reflections on his life and career during a television appearance. Now 79 years old, the composer has lived in Vũng Tàu for 17 years, noting that the ocean has taught him lessons in letting go and understanding the impermanence of life.

Reflecting on his generation, Trần Tiến emphasized a deep sense of patriotism, stating that his generation was determined to ensure the survival of the nation. He expressed happiness regarding the current prosperity of his country.

He also recounted the origins of his famous song, ‘Sao em nỡ vội lấy chồng’. He described a period of financial hardship where a 300,000 VND contract provided ten days of living expenses. The song was inspired by a combination of a family suggestion regarding a local girl and the poetic imagery of Hoàng Cầm’s ‘Lá diêu bông’, resulting in a classic work that blends contemporary folk with pop and rock elements.
