Musicians Kawai and Namekawa to perform Mishima-themed concert in Tokyo

Musicians Yukiko Kawai and Maki Namekawa will perform a special concert titled ‘THE DAY OF MISHIMA’ at TOPPAN Hall in Tokyo on November 20, 2026. The event is scheduled to coincide with the period surrounding the anniversary of Yukio Mishima’s death.

The concert features two distinct musical approaches to the life and works of the author. Maki Namekawa, a pianist based in Vienna, will perform a solo piano arrangement of Philip Glass’s ‘MISHIMA,’ a work originally composed for the film ‘Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters.’

In the second part of the program, violinist Yukiko Kawai will present a new production of her mono-opera ‘Bitterness of Virtue’ (Bitterness of Virtue). This musical drama, based on Mishima’s literature, incorporates elements of classical and contemporary music to explore themes of love and human emotion.
