Muskingum County Fair Board restores livestock sale traditions

The Muskingum County Fair Board has voted to allow swine class participants to walk their animals through the ring during livestock sales, reversing a recent attempt to streamline the process.

Following concerns from attendees and parents regarding recent changes intended to speed up sales by using electronic displays instead of live animal presentations, the board passed a motion to give exhibitors the option of walking their hogs through the ring. Critics of the previous policy, such as 4-H parent Brooklyn Riehl, argued that buyers need to physically inspect animals to ensure quality and weight accuracy, comparing the process to inspecting a vehicle before purchase.
