Muslim communities in Ireland report rising hostility
Muslim communities in Ireland are reporting increased hostility and growing concerns regarding personal safety. According to a report from the Hope and Courage Collective, titled ‘Ireland in Focus 2025, Mind the Gap’, there is a widening divide between public opinion and political discourse.
The study indicates that while public attitudes are becoming more inclusive, a relatively small group of far-right figures is exerting a disproportionate influence on public debate through online amplification and visible demonstrations. This movement is reportedly shaping the conversation despite lacking widespread public backing.
Several communities in Ireland have been systematically targeted by far-right and anti-immigrant hostility. Asylum seekers, ethnic minorities, and migrants are among those most frequently affected, alongside LGBTI+ communities. The report also notes that public representatives and civil society groups are facing rising levels of harassment and intimidation.
