Muslim World League chief calls for religious leadership in global peace

Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the Muslim World League and head of the Association of Muslim Scholars, called for religious leaders to play a larger role in promoting global peace and social cohesion. Speaking as the guest of honor at the G20 Religion Forum in Utah, Al-Issa warned that polarization, incitement, and violence are frequently fueled by distorted religious discourse.

Al-Issa highlighted the Muslim World League’s ‘Building Bridges of Understanding and Cooperation Between East and West’ initiative, which aims to reduce divisions between nations and peoples. He noted that efforts to implement the outcomes of previous conferences are grounded in the common human values found in the UN Charter and subsequent international agreements. He also touched upon humanitarian initiatives conducted by the organization in partnership with various international bodies.
