Muslim World League launches social peace initiative in West Africa

The Muslim World League has launched a social peace initiative in West Africa aimed at strengthening coexistence and preventing conflict. The initiative was introduced by Secretary-General Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa following an international conference in Abuja held under the patronage of Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The conference resulted in the unanimous adoption of the ‘Abuja Declaration’ by religious leaders from the region’s various faith communities. This declaration establishes a joint action plan involving government institutions, religious leaders, and civil society organizations to protect national unity and social cohesion amidst religious and ethnic diversity.

A coordinating body composed of religious and civil leaders from across West Africa will be established to monitor the implementation of the action plan and conduct periodic progress assessments. The initiative intends to address the root causes of social instability, including extremist ideologies, through scientific, training, and media programs linked to the Charter of Makkah.
