Mustafa Çiftçi calls for global solidarity against CBRN threats
At the 4th International CBRN Congress held at the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD), Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi emphasized the necessity of global solidarity and information sharing to combat chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) threats.
Çiftçi noted that because CBRN threats are global and cross borders, international cooperation must be strengthened. He highlighted that modern security environments are becoming increasingly complex due to advancements in genetic engineering, synthetic biology, artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, and dual-use technologies. The congress theme, ‘Redefining CBRN Threats in the Age of Artificial Intelligence,’ reflects this technological shift.
The event brought together representatives from international organizations, including the United Nations, the International Atomic Energy Agency, and the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, alongside experts, academics, and private sector leaders. Çiftçi stated that the Ministry of Interior's policies focus on proactive risk assessment and neutralizing threats before they escalate, viewing CBRN security not just as a technical field for protecting human life, but as a responsibility to protect nature and future generations.
