Melis Sütşurup Sandal and father face arrest warrants in Turkish fund probe

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is conducting a major investigation into capital market transactions, involving charges of money laundering and financing terrorism. The probe has led to arrest warrants for Melis Sütşurup Sandal and her father, Cihan Sütşurup, as well as the seizure of their assets and bank accounts.

Turkish media reports allege that Melis Sütşurup Sandal withdrew or redirected approximately 11.1 billion TL (roughly 197 million euros) from liquidated funds over a three-month period. Defense lawyers have denied these claims, asserting that the figure represents the total volume of automated financial transactions rather than misappropriated funds. They further stated that Melis is currently in Dubai for her child's education.

The investigation has also resulted in asset freezes for 42 individuals and various entities. Additionally, the assets of Mustafa Yazıcı, son of AKP official Hayati Yazıcı, have been subject to precautionary measures.

Famous Turkish singer Mustafa Sandal has publicly addressed the situation, stating he has no financial partnership or business connection with his wife, Melis, regarding these funds. He emphasized that his sole source of income for the past 33 years has been music.
