Mustafa Sarıgül faces sexual assault and money laundering investigations

Erzincan Deputy Mustafa Sarıgül is at the center of dual investigations involving allegations of sexual misconduct and large-scale money laundering.

In the sexual misconduct probe, former staff members, including Beşir Ömer Demir and Caner Dursun, have provided statements to prosecutors. Demir alleges that Sarıgül subjected him to sexual interventions starting in 2021 and claims he was forced to sign a document containing a 100,000 euro penalty to prevent him from speaking. Dursun alleged that during his tenure as mayor, staff were pressured into performing massages for Sarıgül in a private bedroom.

Simultaneously, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is investigating a money laundering scheme involving the movement of large sums of money through domestic and international companies. This investigation has led to the arrest of 22 individuals, including Sarıgül's sons, Ömer and Emir Sarıgül, his former wife Aylin Kotil, and journalist Murat Ağırel. Recent operations have resulted in the detention of 10 additional suspects.

Following the allegations, YENİ Party leader Özgür Özel announced that Sarıgül's membership has ended. While Sarıgül requested his membership be suspended, the party processed it as a resignation and notified the Court of Cassation. Sarıgül has publicly denied all allegations, describing them as a smear campaign and an information operation.
