Mustafa Taş has been crowned the head wrestler (başpehlivan) at the 66th Traditional Kurtdereli Mehmet Pehlivan Oil Wrestling tournament held in Balıkesir. The three-day event, hosted by Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality and Karesi Municipality at the Kurtdere Er Meydanı, featured a total of 1,642 wrestlers, including 73 competing for the head wrestler title.

In the final match, Taş defeated İsmail Koç to claim the gold belt. Earlier in the tournament, Taş secured his place in the final by defeating Feyzullah Aktürk in a match lasting over an hour. İsmail Koç reached the final after defeating Ali İhsan Batmaz in the semifinals, while Feyzullah Aktürk and Ali İhsan Batmaz shared third place.

During the event, the traditional auction for the wrestling chieftain (ağalık) was held for the upcoming year. Businessman İzzet Tığlı won the title with a bid of 7,010,010 TL. Balıkesir Metropolitan Mayor Ahmet Akın emphasized the importance of preserving this ancestral sport for future generations.
