Mustapha Abdullahi seeks reform for Nigerian basketball

Mustapha Abdullahi, a candidate for the presidency of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), has called for a comprehensive repositioning and a paradigm shift within Nigerian basketball. Abdullahi, who also serves as the Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, argues that the federation requires leadership defined by innovation, competence, and institutional discipline.

His campaign emphasizes the need to connect the sport with corporate investment, international partnerships, and the broader Nigerian economy. Abdullahi intends to leverage his professional background in government, academia, and business to attract new partners and increase the visibility of Nigerian basketball in decision-making arenas.

His platform includes creating pathways for young players, providing support for coaches, strengthening club structures, and increasing investment in women’s basketball. Abdullahi noted that his involvement in the sport includes previous experience as a player and his support for initiatives such as the annual DAM Foundation Basketball event in Kogi State.
