Mustapha Hamid faces GH¢291 million extortion and money laundering trial
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has submitted critical financial evidence in the criminal case against former National Petroleum Authority (NPA) Chief Executive, Dr. Mustapha Hamid, and several other accused individuals.
The prosecution alleges that the defendants engaged in large-scale extortion, abuse of public office, and money laundering involving approximately GH¢291 million and over US$300,000. According to the charge sheet, the accused allegedly extorted these funds from bulk oil transporters and oil marketing companies under the guise of official duties.
To establish the movement of illicit funds, the OSP intends to rely on hundreds of documents, including bank statements and mobile money (MoMo) records. Prosecutors allege that the proceeds from the extortion were laundered through various business entities and property acquisitions to conceal their origins.
