Mustapha Ramid rejects prosecution of Mohamed El Fayed

Mustapha Ramid, the former Moroccan Minister of Justice, has weighed in on the controversy surrounding researcher Mohamed El Fayed’s recent comments regarding the Prophet Muhammad. Ramid has rejected calls for legal prosecution or accusations of treason against El Fayed, arguing instead for a calm, scientific, and religious rebuttal.

Ramid suggested that El Fayed’s statements may not have been intended as mockery, noting that the researcher appeared to be adopting a specific jurisprudential view regarding the term ‘ummi’ (illiterate). El Fayed later clarified that he memorizes the Quran, which Ramid interpreted as a “veiled apology” that should be accepted to avoid granting the researcher unmerited fame.

The controversy follows intense social media backlash and criticism from religious figures, including Sheikh Mohamed El Hassan Ould Dedew and Omar El Kazabari, who accused El Fayed of insulting religious constants. Ramid characterized El Fayed’s tendency to speak on religious matters without expertise as a recurring issue, similar to his previous controversial claims in the medical field.
