Muswellbrook coal mine site begins solar and battery project
Construction has commenced on the Muswellbrook Solar Farm and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at a former open-cut coal mine site south of Muswellbrook. The site, which began coal extraction in 1944, ceased production in late 2022.
Developed by OX2, the project utilizes a hybrid model combining energy generation and storage on a single site. Once operational, the facility is expected to provide power to up to 52,000 homes. OX2 CEO Matthias Taft stated that the company intends to both develop and manage the farm and battery storage infrastructure.
