Muswellbrook Shire Council General Manager Derek Finnigan resigns

Derek Finnigan has resigned from his position as General Manager of the Muswellbrook Shire Council after 44 years of service to the community. His career with the council began as a plant operator in the works depot and progressed through various operational, infrastructure, and senior leadership roles.

Mr. Finnigan held several key positions, including Director of Community Infrastructure in 2018 and Deputy General Manager in July 2020, before being appointed General Manager in March 2023. Council officials described his career as one of remarkable dedication, noting his significant contributions to the management of infrastructure and services across the Shire.

Muswellbrook Shire Mayor Jeff Drayton praised Mr. Finnigan’s extraordinary achievement and commitment to the community. The council has appointed Shaelee Richards, the current Director of Economic Investment, as acting General Manager. A recruitment process will be conducted to find a permanent replacement.
