MuTRA museum inaugurated in Florești, Romania

The National Museum of Transylvanian History has inaugurated MuTRA (the Transylvania Historical Gallery) in Florești, marking the first museum built from the ground up in Romania since the fall of communism. The project, which has been in development for approximately a decade, cost roughly 145 million lei (approximately 28 million euros).

Funding for the facility was provided through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) and state budget funds. The complex spans over 11,300 square meters across three levels, including exhibition spaces, 10 storage units, 10 restoration laboratories, and areas for education, conferences, and events. The site is located near the Fetei Fortress, a significant medieval and archaeological site.

While the building has been inaugurated, it is not yet 100% complete, with finishing works estimated to take about a month. Due to the need to stabilize the interior microclimate and allow construction materials to dry, no cultural heritage artifacts have been moved into the building yet. Experts state that the environment must reach optimal temperature and humidity levels before valuable items can be safely displayed.
