Mutual funds drive long-term wealth through compounding and discipline
Mutual funds serve as a disciplined tool for long-term wealth creation by reducing the need for individual market timing and providing diversification across sectors. Through Systematic Investment Plans (SIPs), these funds help investors automate regular contributions and mitigate emotional decision-making caused by market volatility.
A notable example of long-term compounding is the HDFC Mid-Cap Fund. Over a 13-year period, an investment of 10 lakh rupees in the fund's Direct Plan grew to 1.25 crore rupees, delivering an annual return of more than 20 percent. The fund operates as an open-ended scheme, maintaining at least 65 percent of its assets in mid-cap stocks to capture growth potential from companies that may eventually become large-cap entities.
