Mutxamel to host first Day of the Victims of Terrorism commemoration

Mutxamel will host the first institutional commemorative act for the Day of the Victims of Terrorism in the Valencian Community on Wednesday, September 16. The event aims to preserve the legacy of those affected by terrorist attacks and reaffirm the region's commitment to democratic coexistence.

The municipality was chosen due to its historical significance; on September 16, 1991, a car bomb attack by the organization ETA killed three people, including two local police officers and a municipal tow truck driver. This remains the deadliest attack by ETA in the Valencian Community.

The ceremony will be presided over by the President of the Generalitat, Juanfran Pérez Llorca, and the Minister of Justice, Nuria Martínez. The commemoration will honor all victims of terrorism, with a specific focus on the 44 people killed in terrorist attacks within the Valencian Community, as well as Valencians killed in attacks elsewhere. The date was formally established as a regional day of remembrance following a decision by the Council on July 31.
