MUZEU contemporary art museum opens in Braga, Portugal
MUZEU, a new contemporary art museum, has opened in Braga, Portugal. Founded by José Teixeira, the CEO of dstgroup, the institution is inspired by the spirit of the May 1968 revolution in Paris. The museum’s motto, “Be realistic, demand the impossible,” is derived from a famous photograph of graffiti from that era.
The museum spans five floors and an exhibition area of approximately 3,000 square meters. Its collection includes over 100 artworks by 84 artists, representing 16 different countries. The collection features 45 Portuguese artists and 39 international artists, with a gender distribution of 57 men and 27 women.
Notable artists in the collection include Pablo Picasso, Alex Katz, Artur Lescher, Candida Höfer, Nan Goldin, and Eduardo Batarda. Additionally, a dedicated gallery has been established for the work of Anselm Kiefer. Photography is a central element of the collection, reflecting Teixeira’s personal interest in the medium.
