Muzeum Śląska Opolskiego expands photography history collection
The Museum of Opole Silesia (Muzeum Śląska Opolskiego) is expanding its historical photography collection with the acquisition of 26 vintage cameras and accessories dating from the late 19th to the 20th century. Funded by the National Institute of Museums, these new items come from the collection of Bogusław Szybkowski, a noted collector, photographer, and expert on Silesian photographic heritage.
The acquisition includes a variety of equipment, such as large-format, studio, and traveling cameras, as well as stereoscopic cameras and a set of Polish 'Start' series cameras. The collection also features accessories that illustrate the technical evolution of the craft and the working methods of photographers across different eras.
Bogusław Szybkowski, a long-time resident of Opole and founder of MS Publishing, has contributed extensively to the documentation of regional history through his collections of photography, philately, and numismatics. The museum's historical department will continue to use these objects to study the social and cultural history of the Opole region.
